Brief Biography:
Magna Vita is here to deliver melodic, riff-ripping hard rock, forged with equal parts good ol’ fashioned shredding, and modern rock song-writing. Some of the songs might look a bit too hot to touch, but really they’re lab-made gateway drugs for the people out there who haven’t fallen in love with rock just yet. Satisfaction, the kind you feel deep in your chest after a glass of something great, or tingling in your fingers after doing something you never thought you could - thats what Magna Vita shamelessly pursues in their music. Their songs leave no questions behind, except for “when’s the next one?
Extended Biography:
It is often said that “life imitates art”. What if an artist had this philosophy so naturally ingrained, that everything they touched created a grandiose shift in day-to-day existence?
Combine that rare breed of creativity with pure ecstasy and the explosive moxie of rock ‘n roll...and enter your new favourite band, Magna Vita. Hailing from Toronto, ON, Davey White (Vocals, Guitar) and Oliver Salathiel (Drums) effortlessly craft meticulous “stadium” rock with a flair for metal-inspired riffs, elevated arrangements and beautiful vocal harmonies. Literally translating to “Great Life”, Magna Vita is not afraid to uncover the larger-than-life experiences of humanity; allowing it all to be discovered in each and every song and performance.
“Magna Vita also carries connotations of the good life, or the ‘loud life’. That’s what we want.” says Salathiel, describing the bands’ profound connection to the moniker. This is a band that emanates an infectious euphoria, comparable to iconic greats like Boston or Alice in Chains, while being immersed in a distinctive modern rock perspective akin to the likes of Muse or Royal Tusk. Something this great occurs not because of musical skill alone, but also because of the undeniable compatibility of creators, which is a rare thing. White and Salathiel laid the groundwork for Magna Vita through a number of previous artistic endeavours; most recently together in the well-established Toronto rock outfit, Pterodactyl Problems. That project led the band to release a studio album that garnered a flood of notable press, show opportunities, awards and ultimately recognition by prominent Canadian/Australian rockers, The Lazys. After almost one year of being taken under the wing of Leon Harrison, front man of The Lazys and creator of the renowned Bandwagon Workshops mentorship program, the band embarked on an intense and meaningful evolution, and Magna Vita was officially born.
Through all of these valuable opportunities, and time spent on writing their debut studio album, Magna Vita has discovered what they really hope to connect with on this first release. “The record is going to be polished and punchy, lush and refined...” White describes. “It’s gonna be a heavy rock record that’s moving. It’s meant to evoke the same feeling as being front row at a huge stadium concert.”. In a post-pandemic world, one could argue that this is all that anyone is seeking in their musical discovery; something that unites, excites, unbinds from the banality of life and releases pure joy. “We have songs about the world going to shit, seeing someone you love sinking into their illness, struggling with but also reveling in being connected to people. We want to bring ourselves to the lyrics, and be genuine and excited about them.”.
